One reader says:

"I don't think you've portrayed Milanville in a bad light at all! Reading back in Blighty, you paint a charming picture of upstate living. Makes me v jelous.

I remember when you first moved up there you posted how lucky you were to land in such a great community. We're thinking of a similar "out of the smoke" move ourselves."

More later, perhaps.

Nothing to do with people posting anonymous slander - just found this and thought it would be of interest to you - and for the record, I enjoy your blog tremendously!

Environmentally concerned travelers worried about taking the family on safari to Africa or snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef (both high-carbon journeys) might consider booking their spring break vacations through REI Adventures (www.rei.com/adventures).
The company now offsets 100 percent of the climate-altering carbon emissions produced by air, water and ground transportation through a deal with the Bonneville Environmental Foundation. Included in the price of each trip are “green tags,” renewable energy credits that offset the polluting effects of each passenger’s trip by supporting solar, wind and other renewable energy sources.
Bonneville, a nonprofit foundation, also has a green tag program for individual travelers, allowing them to calculate exactly how much CO2 or other greenhouse emissions a particular trip will create. According to the carbon calculator on its Web site, four people traveling by air from New York to Denver (spring skiing anyone?) would need to buy 6.3 green tags.
Travelers then have the option of buying Cooler Future green tags ($20, with 99 percent of the money going to wind programs and 1 percent to solar) or Brighter Future green tags ($24, with 90 percent going to wind and 10 percent to solar, a more expensive renewable energy.)
“Our goal is to make the power grid green one traveler at a time,” said Patrick Nye, director of sales at Bonneville. “When we started the program in 2000 we were happy to sell 600 green tags. Now we are selling half a million annually.” See www.greentagsusa.org
